what we’re all about
We’re just getting started but Good Ol’ Dog Rescue and Sanctuary is committed to supporting and caring for unwanted or discarded Senior dogs or those dogs with their own special needs, be it shy, scared or those having medical issues. Here, they get an extra helping of patience with all the dignity they deserve. We feel that all dogs are adoptable. Every dog has their human. If we are unable to find that human for them, we provide a safe, quiet, loving home environment for them to spend the rest of their days, however long or short that might be. And they will not be alone when they cross over the Rainbow Bridge.
One Good Ol’ Dogs’ Story
I met this amazing, sweet, quirky black lab mix several years ago while working at a dog rescue. His owners had surrendered him to the shelter because he was “too old”. This boy was a young, healthy 10 year old. We got him out of the shelter and brought him to the Rescue. Although he was no longer in a kennel at a noisy shelter, he was very far from the home he knew for 10 years. He lived another 6 years, all of it in rescue and, although he was very much loved by all the volunteers who walked him and spent time with him, he never did get the opportunity to live in a home again.
It broke my heart that I was not able to give him that home he deserved but I did make him a promise that I would dedicate myself to dogs like him - those that are unwanted or discarded, through no fault of their own.
